Just
when you thought things couldn’t get any worse at Milan, we lost to Udinese
with a performance that would make Mary Poppins depressed. With rumors of a
full-blown meltdown and Inzaghi ordering the team into ritiro until our Genoa
match, there hasn’t been much to smile about this week. But maybe that is
something we need to start to wrap our heads around. Even if the rumors of
Berlusconi selling a majority share of the club come true, it will take more
than money to rebuild this Milan. We need to start being realistic about the
future of Milan.
Even Matri fears for the future of Milan |
This
time I was joined by my Milan Obsession co-founder Jovan. After his brief foray into blogging, he went on to have lots
more fun by creating and developing fantasyseriea.com and three
other Fantasy Football sites. But he still has time for his lifelong club
Milan, as evidenced in our conversation:
• News of the Week: Meet the Mayor, Primavera success, Slumber
Party at Milanello, massive losses for 2014
• Season to Date: our results from Serie A
• The Current State of Milan: how we got here, where we are
• The Future of Milan: trying to be realistic about the speculation
and rumors, especially for fans who are waiting
for a miracle.
• Coming Up: Upcoming matches and what to look for
Thanks
once again to Jovan for sharing his passion and wisdom about Milan. Please check
out his suite of Fantasy Football games: Fantasy Serie A, Fantasy
Premier League, Fantasy Liga,
and Fantasy Bundesliga. You
can jump in at any time and get some good practice for next season, just like
Milan should.
Milan-Genoa Mini-Preview: Slumber Party Hangover
After losing to 15th place Udinese and Inzaghi losing his
patience with the team and forcing them into ritiro, aka as a “Slumber Party”
around here, things couldn’t get any worse, right? Wrong. Now we face 7th place
Genoa at the San Siro, complete with our darling Niang in the squad. And we’ll
do it with a Slumber Party hangover… which could be good, if the ritiro was
effective, or very, very bad.
He wasn't invited to the slumber party |
Genoa are coming off of a 3-1 win vs. Cesena on the weekend.
For that match, Gasperini lined up Perin; De Maio, Burdisso, Roncaglia;
Marchese, Kucka, Rincon, Bertolacci; Perotti, Pavoletti, and Iago Falqué. He
also lost Perotti to injury for the rest of the season, adding him to the
injured list with Borriello, Costa, Ariaudo, and our old friend Antonini.
Inzaghi has the usual injury list of El Shaarawy (even
though he is back in training, he is not fit,) Agazzi, Montolivo, Essien, and
Alex out. But how injured everyone’s attitudes will be by the ritiro remains to
be seen. We may gain some confidence and see an improvement in attitude from
Saturday (anything would be an improvement for most of the players, to be
honest,) but a win is harder to imagine. Let’s just hope that Niang’s curse of
not being able to find the back of the net at the San Siro continues. And that
our players don’t have a giant Slumber Party hangover.
