Waking up to the news that the Derby and all remaining round
27 games of Serie A have been cancelled may sound like a tragedy, but the real
tragedy is the loss of a good footballer and a great man. Davide Astori, who
grew up in Milan’s youth system, has passed away in his sleep at the age of 31.
He leaves behind a wife and a young daughter. The Fiorentina captain and
member of Italy’s National Team died in his sleep, apparently of cardiac
arrest. A sobering reminder that life is precious.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and
teammates, current and former. May he rest in peace.
