Milan-Chievo Preview: Three of a Kind

Every time we play Chievo, I think of Pandoro. I can’t help myself, Pandoro is the singularly most delicious thing in this world. And that Chievo are owned by Paluani, a company that makes Pandoro, doesn’t help. The second thing I think of are the Flying Donkeys. Because what the hell?! But this time around, I also think of the number three. First was Sassuolo, then Olympiacos, and I want Chievo to be our third straight win. Like three of a kind.

Fear the Slovenian Messi

Chievo currently sit bottom of the table having drawn twice and lost five times. Still looking for their first win, D’Anna is also facing a bit of an injury crisis. He will be missing the miniature Giaccherini, Tomovic, Djordjevic, Cacciatore, and Obi for this match. For their match last week against Torino, he lined up: Sorrentino; Depaoli, Rossettini, Barba, Cacciatore; Leris, Rigoni, Radovanovic, Giaccherini; former Milan star Valter Birsa and Djordjevic.

Gattuso will still be missing Caldara, Conti, and Strinic to injury. However it is also being reported that Romagnoli is now a doubt due to a minor injury. That would mean Zapata could start. If it is last year’s Zapata, I’d be okay with it, but if it was the classic Zapata that played on Thursday, I am not okay with it. Additionally, even though he was called up for the senior Italy squad, Cutrone is still in some pain. Although he likely won’t start, it is very possible he could come on again as a super sub.

As our residency at the San Siro continues this month, I am hoping for some consistency. Not the consistent conceding of goals, I’m over that and they need to move on. But the consistency of winning. Of maintaining mentality for 90 minutes and realizing that this game is winnable, even if Gattuso fields the likes of Borini or Bertolacci. Another three points would do wonders, not just to send us back up the table where we belong, but for the mentality of the club and fans. Particularly with the Derby coming up right after the break. It’s too early for Pandoro, and seriously, whatever with flying donkeys. So, whether or not you are the gambling type, let’s all put our energy into helping Milan get our third win in a row, or three of a kind.
