Milan are playing twice a week now due to the Europa League qualifying matches. Having played a tough match on Thursday, the team travel to Calabria to face the newly promoted sharks, Crotone. They are coming off of a tough opening loss, but have home advantage and rested legs. If Milan are not careful in this match, we could be swimming with the sharks.
Shark infested waters |
Crotone made their first Serie A appearance four years ago, were relegated once, and are returning back to Serie A this year. However, their first match did not go well, as they were destroyed 4-1 by Genoa. For that match, Stroppa lined up Cordaz; Magalian, Marrone, Golemic; Molina, Cigarini, Zanellato, Mazzotta; Messias; Nwankwo, and Riviere. It was Riviere who scored their goal in that match, however he is injured now, and joins Gigliotti, Benali, and Cuomo on the injured list. Stroppa will be missing all four for this match.
A lethal weapon we didn't even have on Thursday |
Pioli is also missing Ibrahimovic and Duarte, both of whom tested positive for COVID-19 recently. Conti is still out injured, and while Musacchio began a personalized training program this week, he is still out. Romagnoli also began training again recently, but is unlikely to play tomorrow. Leao was quarantined for more than 25 days due to COVID-19, but has been training and is working to pass fitness tests to possibly be available for this match.
Rebic will have fresh legs as he has been suspended for the Europa League matches. One of the amazing things about this squad is that we finally have some depth on the bench. Pioli is able to rotate players to keep up with the demands of the scheduling, and we don't lose as much when he does. However, because of that depth, the pressure is larger to perform, particularly against a newly promoted side like Crotone. Despite having just played on Thursday, if Milan do not perform well in games like this one, they could be swimming with the sharks.
