Monza-Milan Preview: Regrets

Most people have something in their lives that the regret. Some more than others. This match will be filled with plenty of regrets, on both sides. Whether it is a former CEO and director who abused his power to help destroy the club he claimed he loved, or the current CEO of that same club, who abused his power to destroy the club he claimed to love. Or that CEO getting a club director and legend fired and sending his third generation Milan son to the other club. Or perhaps it is that other club, who hired a former legend of the other club to manage their current club, and only has one league win this season. Not to mention the myriad regrets surrounding our own manager and results this season. Truly, this one will be filled with regrets.

Fonseca and the club have made plenty of poor decisions this year.

In the rematch of the legendary Trofeo Silvio Berlusconi match, we meet once again the club whose CEO is still Galliani, who infamously ran Milan into the ground before Berlusconi sold it. He probably misses all the free dinners at Giannino and being able to cook the books with Genoa's former owner, Preziosi. Although Milan did gift him Daniel Maldini, who was doomed to be a social outcast after the club fired his father, and thus had to be sent away at all costs... or is that zero costs? Anyway, he was sent to Monza for free to be managed by his father's former teammate, Alessandro Nesta.

So much Milan history... at Monza.

Unfortunately, Nesta's record in the league this yeare is one win, five draws, and four losses, putting them just above the relegations zone. Their most recent match was a 2-0 loss to Atalanta on Wednesday. For that match, Nesta lined up a 3-4-2-1 with: Turati; D'Ambrosio, Marí, Caldirola; Pereira, Pessina, Bianco, Kyriakopoulos; Mota, Vignato; and Marić. Nesta has a number of players out injured for this one, including Gagliardini, Sensi, Forson, Cragno, and former Milan youth player Andrea Petagna, who is recovering from pneumonia, so in doubt for our match.

Furlani's narcissism became everyone's regrets.

Fonseca is missing his brain, and all morals, apparently. After proving to the world once again in the Napoli match that his need to be right is more important than his desire to help Milan win, the club apparently have finally put him on notice again. It seems that perpetually not starting their most valuable asset while simultaneously losing matches is not okay with even them, so he reportedly needs to improve his relationships with the players and get results or he is out the door.

This time around, Fonseca will be missing Florenzi and Bennacer to injury, of course, as well as Gabbia and Jović. Tammy Abraham, however, has apparently recovered and should be available for this match. Also available, returning from suspensions, are Reijnders and Theo Hernández. Rafa Leão is available as well, but the remarkably dense/insane/stubborn/self-destructive Fonseca is reportedly planning to bench him again.

There is no love lost... for Fonseca from the fans of between these two.

I'm all out of words for this man. I simply cannot wait until he is sacked. I do not wish for Milan to fail, but it seems inevitable with the trajectory he has us on. He is destroying the mentality of the team. Ideally, Milan somehow come up with a result, but management still sack him for being, as Tassotti put it, a masochist. Nesta also needs the result, and playing away, it is certainly not impossible that we could drop points yet again. Additionally, if Daniel Maldini plays, he will likely score against us, it's just what he does. While some of the people at Monza may look back at Milan with memories or even wishing they could change their past, it is more than likely going to be Fonseca and Milan that have the most regrets at the full time whistle.
